Shadow Boxes
 |
The “Super
Deep Shadow Box” line was designed to fill customers’ needs
to have items like footballs, baseballs, helmets, shoes, hats, war articles,
guns, antique collectibles, baby dresses and dried flowers framed. If
there was one thing all of these items had in common is that they all
needed to be at least 5 inches deep and |
| even
as deep as 16 inches. So each time, my options were limited to two: order
an expensive custom acrylic box or stack moulding on top of moulding
to achieve the depth required. |
Construction
and Finish
A Super-Deep Shadow Box is made using two main parts: a hardwood face frame
and veneered classic core plywood sides. The use of the solid wood face
frame attached to the plywood allows us to make a shadow box that is stable
and strong. The strength of this construction is what allows the boxes to
be built up to 22 inches deep.
Every Super-Deep
Shadow Box has a two step finish. Each frame is hand rubbed with a minimum
of two coats of stain. Then each frame is sealed with a semi
gloss acrylic. This two step process brings out the beauty of the wood
as well as giving a durable long lasting finish.
The large
2” wide profile is suitable for larger frames with greater
depth. With this moulding we can build the “Super Deep Shadow Boxes” as
deep as 22”.
